Dublin, 03rd March 2014 – Shimmer, global leading provider of wearable wireless sensors is pleased to announce it has taken up residency in the Dublin City University (DCU) Innovation Campus located close to the main college campus in Glasnevin, Dublin 11. This move comes as a result of the increased activity in the wireless sensor Industry coupled with the fast paced growth of wearable technology globally.
The campus is to act as the hub that will drive innovation in one of the fastest growing areas of the economy – cleantech, and high growth technology. Shimmer is delighted to be part of a selected network of companies to advance growth and sustainability in this area. The move represents greater opportunities for Shimmer in terms of the synergies that can develop as a result of being part of the cluster initiative located on the campus.
The new location is focused on becoming the national hub for innovation. The President of DCU, Professor Brian MacCraith acknowledges the contribution that Shimmer will make to the Campus, ‘A highly innovative Irish Technology company which is rapidly making a name for itself internationally in the area of sensor technologies’. Describing Shimmers ‘fit’ as a new tenant, Executive Director of the Innovation Campus Ronan Furlong notes ‘it’s fantastic to have a company of the caliber of Shimmer as one of the early tenants…Shimmer’s wearable sensor technology research and its position at the forefront of the ‘Internet of Things’ make it a perfect fit for the mission of the campus’.
Described as ‘the next phase of Shimmers development’ by the companies CEO Paddy White, the move demonstrates the strength of the collaborative relationship that DCU and Shimmer share. Research has always been a strong foundation for the business, but moving to the Innovation campus solidifies Shimmers place as a leading Irish exporter in the high growth, technology ecosystem. Developing Enterprise markets is a key strategy for growth, with some of Shimmer’s clients already receiving FDA approval in the United States for their Shimmer based solutions.
The company has been recognised as a product leader in its field after having received the Frost & Sullivan product leadership award in 2013, and most recently participated in the Johnson & Johnson Digital Health Masterclass. It anticipates the new move will provide an inimitable opportunity to contribute too and leverage from the network of cleantech, high growth technology companies.
